Which training program is right for me?
That depends on where you and your dog are today. Bombproof Basics is designed to help you build a strong foundation. Retriever Revolution provides ongoing coaching and guidance as you continue training. If you're working through a specific challenge, a focused course or one of our free resources may be the right fit. If you prefer hands-on instruction, workshops and Day School provide opportunities to train directly with Pat.
Does Pat train dogs or teach handlers?
Pat teaches handlers. Better handlers build better dogs. His goal is to help you better understand what your dog is telling you, make better training decisions, and develop the kind of partnership that lasts well beyond a single drill or competition.
Do I need to be an experienced trainer to learn from Pat?
No. Elite Retrievers works with handlers at every stage, from those building a strong foundation to experienced competitors refining their mechanics, timing, and decision-making. The best place to begin depends on your goals and your dog's current level.
What makes Pat's approach different?
Pat believes the best training decisions begin with understanding the dog in front of you. Rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all system, he teaches handlers how to read their dog, think through each situation, and build trust through clear, consistent communication.
Do Pat's training principles apply outside of field trials?
Yes. While Pat has trained more than 100 Field Trial Champions, his approach applies equally to hunt tests, Super Retriever Series, hunting, and other sporting dog venues because his principles are built around the dog, not the venue.
Can I learn from Pat if I can't travel?
Absolutely. Elite Retrievers offers free educational resources, online courses, and Retriever Revolution, making it possible to continue learning from Pat wherever you train.
